Subject: Cogenitor

In this episode, Enterprise makes first contact with the Vissians. The
Vissians have three genders: Male, female, and Cogenitor. All three are
needed to produce babies. Cogenitors make up only 3% of the population,
so there's a long waiting period for Cogenitors. The chief engeneer and
his wife have had a Cogenitor assigned to them. Trip discovers that the
Cogenitor has not been educated, so he takes it upon himself to educate
her! Within a day, she learns to read, is able to beat Trip in
checkers, and enjoys movies. She no longer wants to stay on the Vissian
ship and requests asylum. Captian Archer rejects the request and sends
her back. However, she soon commits suicide.
Why didn't Archer propose that the Cogenitor complete her part in the
reproductive process and then be allowed to move to Enterprise?
How does the Cogenitor facilitate reproduction? Does the man have sex
with the Cogenitor and the Cogenitor then have sex with the woman? Or
is there a threesome in bed?
